High Priority Industry Network - Health
Trailblazer Award 2008
Mr. Ben Hardman, Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture and Member for Seymour presented, on behalf of the board and members, the Inaugural "Pathways Trailblazer" award to the Kilmore and District Hospital, Broadford Secondary College and Broadford Student Bridgit Joengbloed.
Director of Nursing for Kilmore and District Hospital, Amanda Edwards, received the award on behalf of the Hospital. Mr. Jim Alsop, Principal of Broadford Secondary College recieved the award on behalf of the college . Bridgit Joengbloed received her award.
The Board recongnised the work that has been done for young people, to provide local, high quality pathways in Health and Nursing, which are both local and national skill shortage areas, was very important. The Board noted the creative use of vocational pathways, the value of School Based Apprenticeships and the recognition that this opportunity was able to occur while remaining at school provided the "best of both worlds" for students.
This award was designed to simultaneously recognise an employer, young person and their school, who work to provide and pursue skilled pathways from School to work. All members agreed that the recipients were worthy winners!
The board will work with the winners to provide financial support to support their further endeavours and encourage other such partnerships across the CRLLEN District.
Industry Partnership
Transfield Services & CRLLEN
Chairperson of the Central Ranges LLEN Board, Mr Andrew Hocking [IBM Australia New Zealand] and Mr Neil Birtchnell, Business Community Investment General Manager - Global Servcies for Transfield Servcies [ASX -TSE] were delighted to re-affirm a commitment to an ongoing relationship that began in 2003 between Transfield Servcies and the Central Ranges LLEN.
A new memorandum of understanding was signed in front of the Annual General Meeting, to signal a renewed commitment to what has been a highly valued partnership and a model that has seen similar initatives take hold in other parts fo the State.
Mr. Birtchnell thanked the Board for a genuine commitment to a long term partnership that was able to sustain the "ups and downs" of business activity and that was focussed on mid to longer term value for all the partners, particluarly the young people of the district.
Originally established in November 2003 at the Puckapunyal Army Base by Mr. Peter Watson, Chief Executive Officer of Transfield Services, and Mr. Rob Hine, Chairperson of the LLEN in 2003, the initiative is designed to incorporate a range of approaches designed to improve employment and education outcomes across the district. The partners have agreed that the focus will remain on what we call the ‘skill footprint’. These are activities that focus on improving the skills of those within our community and the longer-term sustainability of our towns and district.
A detailed outline of the project will be provided to members as the project is developed over the course of 2008 and beyond.
Further details will be provided to all members shortly.
