Round 3 Application 2010 - SUCCESSFUL
The Trade Training Centres in Schools Program aims to help address national skills shortages in traditional trades and emerging industries by improving trade training programs in secondary schools.
The Hon Peter Garrett AM MP, Minister for School Education, officially announced the successful schools for Round Three on 4 November 2010.
The Central Ranges Trade Training Centre Consortium application was successful in receiving an in principal amount of $11,321,539 to develop the infrastructure and equipment for delivering up to Certificate III VET Automotive, Hospitality, Engineering and Building & Construction training previously unavailable in the area.
The Trade Training infrastructure and equipment will compliment and enhance the current VET facilities at the sites of Seymour, Whittlesea, Assumption and Alexandra Colleges for the benefit of all 10 schools in the Consortium (also including Broadford - Lead School, Yea, Seymour Special, Wallan & Euroa Colleges). This will ultimately benefit up to 3,500 schools students, local industry across four Shires (Mitchell, Murrindindi, Whittlesea & Strathbogie) and the broader community.
The Central Ranges LLEN has worked successfully with the Central Ranges Trade Training Centre Consortium of 10 Schools and 2 TAFE partners to submit a Round 3 - 2010 Trade Training Centre application.
The Central Ranges LLEN assisted in the facilitation of two critical Memorandums of Understanding (MoU's). The first between the Consortium of 10 schools and the second between the School Consortium and our two TAFE partners in Kangan Institute and GO TAFE.
The Central Ranges LLEN would like to thank all partners for their hard work especially Broadford Secondary College - Lead School and DEECD Hume Region for developing a successful Round 3 application which will undoubtably have a lasting impact on skill development and pathways into local employment for young people across the Central Ranges.
Details of the Round 3 - Trade Training Centre announcements can be found on the Department of Education, Employment & Workplace Relations Trade Training Centre website.

Update November 10th 2009 - Round 2 Application
Trade Training Centre Consortium Unsuccessul.
Jim Alsop, Principal of the lead school in the 10 school consortium of Government and Catholic schools of the Central Ranges Trade Trading Centre consortium was advised by the Commonwealth on the 5th of November that they were unsuccessful in their application to receive a 16 million dollar investment in vocational education infrastructure.
The consortium, the first of its kind in the region, represents approximately 3,500 year 9-12 students across the Mitchell, Murrindindi, Strathbogie Shires and the City of Whittlesea.
Mr Alsop said there has been an ≥18 month investment into generating support and collaboration from 10 School Councils, local business and communities across 5 shires≈.
Andrew Hocking, Chairperson of the Central Ranges Local Learning and Employment Network said he is "disappointed, considering the Principals had worked on it for 18 months, met all the requirements and even continued DURING and after the devastation of the fires, working closely with VBBRA, DEECD and Federal Parliamentary Secretary for Bushfire Reconstruction, Bill Shorten".
Our board, with over 200 members from across the region, believed the detailed economic, social and educational plans were tightly integrated with the skill needs of businesses and young people in the region and had the added connection of supporting and complimenting reconstruction efforts in communities where infrastructure, employment and labour markets have been devastated.
The consortium will review our model and the suggestions from Canberra and look at next steps available.

Background
On 7 March 2008 Minister Pike, together with the Deputy Prime Minister Julia Gillard, wrote to all principals inviting applications for funding under the Commonwealth Government Trade Training Centres in Schools initiative.
This is a substantial investment on the part of the Commonwealth that is being actively supported by the Victorian government.
The significant new funding creates important opportunities to build new partnerships between schools and between schools, TAFEs and industry and to explore new mechanisms for local provision of comprehensive curriculum programs at Years 9 - 12.
The Central Ranges LLEN, in partnership with the South West Goulburn LCP Inc, Hume Region DEECD, Northern Metropolitan Region DEECD, Secondary Schools across the Government and Catholic sectors in the Mitchell, Murrindindi, Strathbogie and Whittlesea Shires and the Goulburn Ovens and Kangan Batman TAFEs, began investigating [in early May] the possibility of a combined and coordinated capital investment application to support trade training for young people from across what is broadly defined as the "Lower Hume or Central Ranges " region.
Update December 2008

Schools participating in this consortium currently include: Alexandra Secondary College, Assumption College Kilmore, Broadford Secondary College, Euroa Secondary College, Seymour Technical High School, Seymour Special School, St. Mary's P-10 Seymour, Wallan Secondary College, Whittlesea Secondary College, Yea High School.
