Mitchell South Pathways Planning
Tue, Oct 16, 2007; by Bill Coppinger.Dear Colleagues,
I have established this discussion topic to allow us to share/store relevant information and discussions around the Mitchell South Pathways Planning group [ for want of a better name?]
This is a logical next step from the early work of the Mitchell South Place Management Project and the work form our most recent Future Minds Forum
Please feel free to comment/leave questions/observations or suggest other participants for the planning group. You can click the Comment on or reply to this post link at the bottom of this page.
Thanks again to those who attended our working lunch today at the MCC. We look forward to continued and frutiful discussions, as well as some immediate results to support the Wallan School community!
Some notes from the meeting:
Background
- We have begun a dialogue about the immediate and mid to long term needs for Vocational Education and Training provision in the Wallan and broader Mitchell South area.
- Over the next 20+ years, Mitchell South/ Wallan will double its population [at least], with considerable planning implications for all sectors.
- Mitchell [South] remains as one of the top three/four fastest growing LGA's in the State.
- Mitchell South is also the subject of an RMF sponsored Place Management Project. [centralrangesllen.org.au/mitchellplacemanagement07 ]
Issues:
- There is a very clear and present need of a rapidly expanding Secondary College that needs to plan, resource and offer a range of options to new parents and families in the immediate coming 6 to 18 months.
- There is also a broader/more strategic need to consider coordination of possible future infrastructure planning over the next 5-10 years with both the north/western melbourne planning areas as well as Mitchell/Murrindindi and elements of the Macedon Ranges Shire communities.
Follow-up
- There was general concensus that immediate planning support for programme identification and delivery can be established between Wallan SC and Kangan Batman. CRLLEN has offered to support a short-term planning resource, details to be determined.
- OTTE has encouraged planning feedback to be directed to the north-west planning/reference group. Bill C and others will follow up.
- CRLLEN will also approach OTTE infrastructure personnel to discuss longer-term planning implications/opportunities.
