Mitchell South Place Management Planning Project

The Central Ranges LLEN has been a foundation member of the Mitchell South Place Management Project since 2004.

The "MSPMP" was developed as a response to the Mitchell South area defined as Wallan and Beveridge, which are experiencing rapid population growth which is outpacing developments in the social, economic, built and natural environments.

In response to this continued growth, the Mitchell Shire Council in conjunction with the Department of Human Services, identified the need to establish an integrated planning approach that would enable services and infrastructure development to match the growth of the region.

The Central Ranges LLEN chaired the sub-committee of the steering committee working on local labour market and employment planning issues. The Central Ranges LLEN members were also represented on the Youth and Education sub-committees.

Partners include: Mitchell Shire Council (MSC), Department of Human Services (DHS) Hume Region, Department of Infrastructure (DOI), Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE), Department for Victorian Communities (DVC), VicRoads, Central Ranges Local Learning Network (CRLLEN), Department of Education and Training (DE&T), Goulburn Ovens Murray Regional Council of Adult, Community & Further Education, Victoria Police, Lower Hume Primary Care Partnership/Mitchell Community Health Service(LHPCP/MCHS), Regional Development Victoria (RDV), North East Victorian Area Consultative Committee (NEVACC)

History

On June 30th 2004, the Board of Directors entered in to a collaborative arrangement with the Mitchell Shire Council to co-fund a senior community development coordinator for the 04-05 and 05-06 financial years. Details of this arrangement can be found here. This very successful arrangement concluded in June 2006.

The Community Development Coordinator has helped [and continues to] foster community development in the Mitchell Shire community.  The role involves coordinating community activities and events that will build links and relationships between all sectors and individuals in the community.  It involves enabling the community, by empowering individuals, to become pro-active about taking responsibility for its own future.

The position reported to the General Manager Community and Recreation, Mr. Brendan McGrath and worked closely with the Chief Executive Officer and CRLLEN Board.

The position proved to be a very successful partnership, in no small part to the commitment and dedication shown by Ms. Jaime Carroll, who held the position throughout the life of the project, spanning almost two years. We thank Jaime for her dedication and commitment to the young people of the district.

This work is continuing across the Mitchell Shire and we have seen very positive evidence of the importance of this collaboration, particularly in the development of the Mitchell South Place Management Planning Project.
