Whilst attending University, Boyd worked with some of the most disadvantaged young people in Melbourne, in Residential Care Units for Melbourne City Mission and Kildonan Child and Family Services. After six months, Boyd became Team Leader of the The Smith Families Broadmeadows office, working closely with community and education networks to develop strategic projects such as Broadmeadows Secondary College Newly Arrived Homework Program and co-ordinating the pilot of the Automotive taster program "Poll Position". Poll Position was based on partnerships with the Hume/Whittlesea LLEN, Inner Northern LLEN, Holden, Ford, Kangan Batman TAFE, Hume City Council and three community organizations, to provide very successful pathways for disengaged young people to this day. The success of the program is highlighted by a similar program being developed in Gisborne.

In 2004, the call for travel beckoned, Boyd and his partner Eleisha backpacked through Central America for 4 months before arriving in the United Kingdom. Boyd worked as a Pastoral Worker (Welfare Co-ordinator) at Greenford High School a large Foundation school in West London, assisting a diverse range of students in Year 10 and Year 11.

When returning to Australia in the beginning of 2007, Boyd commenced as a Careers and Transitions Project Officer with Western Local Community Partnership. This included developing schools and industry partnerships such as Wyndham City Councils DVD Competition, which was used as the communication tool for promoting Careers in Council at the Wyndham Careers Expo. Facilitating strategic partnerships with schools such as Laverton P-12 to assist disengaged young people and their parents. In the 2009, Boyd become the Youth Transition Support Initiative Co-ordinator supporting four workers to manage the complex needs of disengaged young people.

Boyd has several years experience in working for Community, Education and Corporate organisations, which has resulted in the his most recent appointment as Chief Executive Officer of the Central Ranges Local Learning and Employment Network.

On behalf of the Board and all members, we welcome Boyd to the position of Chief Executive Officer and wish him well in working across the Macedon, Mitchell and Murrindindi Shires to improve education, employment and training outcomes for our young people.
