On Wednesday 12th September a small but dedicated group of parents from Lancefield Primary School attended a workshop facilitated by Pelican Education Services and supported through the Central Ranges LLEN.
Delivered by experienced educators Kaye Bills and Glenda Fisher, the relaxed and informal workshop addressed a different side of transition than is normally presented at Secondary School transition sessions. Topics covered included the feelings that parents face when their child leaves primary school and how to best support them in their journey.
The workshop highlighted the importance of fostering and maintaining good relationships with the secondary school, and gave some great tips for practically supporting the homework expectations that their child will face. Ideas included establishing a homework planning calendar, using audio books to support reading novels, and how to assist their child in using textbooks.
Each parent received a resource pack that can be referred to during their child’s transition process.
