The program caters to young parents up to the age of 25.
Seymour FLC principal Donald Gibbons says the program benefits the entire community.
‘‘All young people, no matter what their circumstance deserve the right to an education, and a future,’’ he said.
Seymour FLC has established a dedicated space where parents can bring their children and study at the same time.
The program aims to provide learning outcomes, pathways planning and guidance to each student, and to reduce and improve the negative stigma and mental health issues associated with being a young parent.
Seymour FLC also has an adolescent health and maternal and child health nurse working with the young parents on site.
Individual learning plans are developed for each student, focusing on their interests and goals, and working towards completion of a VCAL certificate.
The Young Parents Program is running on Mondays and Thursdays at Seymour FLC. For more information phone Anthea on 0448 004 359 or Bonnie on 5799 1298.
