Invitation: ACFE Planning - Evidence Guide 2009

ACFE Evidence Guide Planning for 2009 training delivery in Mitchell and Murrindindi Shires.ACFE

The ACFE Hume Region cordially invites all interested stakeholders to participate in a morning planning workshop.

When: Thursday 26 June, 2008 - 10.30am to 12.30 pm (followed by lunch)

Where: The Wallan Multi Purpose Community Centre, 42-47 Bentinck Street, Wallan [Google Map]

We need your help to contribute to the planning processes for the delivery of funded ACE programs in 2009. The ACFE Board allocates funding to ACE organisations for training, targeting people between 16 and 64 who have not completed year 12 or equivalent, particularly people from CALD backgrounds, indigenous, people with disabilities, people 40-64 (including men 45+) and youth 16+ outside of the school system. ACFE funded training can comprise tailored programs that are not accredited qualifications, literacy and numeracy, VCE, VCAL and vocational skills programs considered to be entry level - mainly Certs I, II and III (as opposed to higher level skills programs from Certificate IV upwards).

Training must be evidence based.

To this purpose, we welcome the opportunity to meet with ACE organisations, the LLEN, job network providers, local government, community representatives and TAFE to identify where the needs are in order to meet training and learning needs in Mitchell and Murrindindi local government areas..

Please come along to our meeting and feel free to forward the invitation to anybody else interested in helping us form our 2009 evidence plan. You are welcome to either bring along or send us in advance any documents that will help us with our planning.

Please RSVP by Monday 23 June to Christine Milligan at the address below or by email to christine.milligan@dpcd.vic.gov.au

Setting the Scene

Setting the Scene for Adult Community Education (ACE) Longitudinal Study

ACFEThe Hume Regional Council of Adult Community and Further Education invites business, government and community stakeholders to introduce them to the ACE sector; to dispel any myths and to demonstrate the strengths of community education.

Every regional centre has at least one ACE organisation and most rural locations in the Hume region are within easy travelling distance of an adult education centre. ACE organisations can offer education and training programs for adults ranging from programs to introduce people back into learning to nationally accredited training programs. Many of these organisations are registered training organisations and the accredited programs they offer are nationally recognised and have the same currency as TAFE qualifications.

The ACE sector is strategically important. It is local, provides the first steps back into learning with pathways including to higher level qualifications at TAFE and has strengths in business management and governance that could be applied to other organisations.

The research has been conducted by Anne Walstab, Research Fellow with the Centre for Post-compulsory Education and Lifelong Learning (CPELL) at the University of Melbourne.

Amounts between $10,000 and $50,000 are available to support CLPs. The level of funding will depend on the size, complexity and duration of the project. It is up to you to decide the level of funds you wish to apply for to support your project – there are no pre-determined levels. Furthering Education in the Macedon Ranges ? Absolutely....

Macedon Ranges Further Education Centre LogoI was honoured to present the Keynote address last night at the Macedon Ranges Further Education Centre's Annual General Meeting.

My thanks to Roger Jones, Deputy Chairperson of the M.R.F.E.C and the committee of management and members for their warm and engaging welcome.

The Macedon Ranges Further Education Centre offers adult education classes in the Macedon Ranges. Most classes are held in Gisborne, some are in Sunbury and occasionally elsewhere.

Four Programmes of courses are held each year, one for each school term.

The M.R.F.E.C offers an impressive range of programmes. It certainly lives up to it's name of the "further" education centre.

It was very interesting to note that the centre offered it's first Certificate course in 2005 - Certificate 3 in Children's Services. This course is the standard qualification for people who are working or want to work as child care assistants in child care centres, or family day care. It is also of great value to anyone working in the industry in other roles.

Demand for people with this qualification is high.

The co-ordinators of the Centre, Marilyn Share and Carol Franceschi report that the programme was highly successful with most of the participants gaining employment.

We congratulate all involved for such a great result! We look forward to possible future collaborations!

The office of MRFEC is in the Mechanics Hall in Gisborne, and is open from 9:30 am to 4pm Monday to Thursday.
