Setting the Scene for Adult Community Education (ACE) Longitudinal Study
The Hume Regional Council of Adult Community and Further Education invites business, government and community stakeholders to introduce them to the ACE sector; to dispel any myths and to demonstrate the strengths of community education.
Every regional centre has at least one ACE organisation and most rural locations in the Hume region are within easy travelling distance of an adult education centre. ACE organisations can offer education and training programs for adults ranging from programs to introduce people back into learning to nationally accredited training programs. Many of these organisations are registered training organisations and the accredited programs they offer are nationally recognised and have the same currency as TAFE qualifications.
The ACE sector is strategically important. It is local, provides the first steps back into learning with pathways including to higher level qualifications at TAFE and has strengths in business management and governance that could be applied to other organisations.
The research has been conducted by Anne Walstab, Research Fellow with the Centre for Post-compulsory Education and Lifelong Learning (CPELL) at the University of Melbourne.
