What Is On Track?

On Track is a Victorian Government initiative designed to ensure that Year 10 to 12 government and non government school students are on a pathway to further education, training or employment after leaving school.

On Track builds on the Managed Individual Pathways (MIPs) program available in Government schools. MIPs assists 15-19 year old students with individual career and education plans and support to implement those plans.

On Track will ensure that Year 10-12 students are:

On Track also includes a research component to provide a comprehensive picture of what happens to young people after they leave school.

Young people who are not studying or in full time employment and request assistance when surveyed will be referred to relevant local agencies which will provide the advice and services they require.

The State Government On Track site provides answers to frequently asked questions for students participating in On Track, and destination data for the past two years of school leavers surveyed by On Track, with explanatory notes.

The On Track Longitudinal Study follows specific groups of the 2003 Year 12 completers to develop of more detailed picture of their transitions over the 4 years after they leave school. The 2005 report on the longitudinal study is available now.

The OnTrack Longitudinal Survey [2007]

In looking at the proportions of early school leavers and school completers who left school in 2003 and who are positively engaged in 2007 (proportion of each group (and sub groups) in study, training or full-time work four years after leaving school), the outcomes are stronger for those who had completed their senior school certificate: 85 per cent of Year 12 completers were engaged in study, training or work in 2007 compared to 72 per cent of early leavers.

OnTrack data is now available for students who left school in 2004.

This is the third year that such comprehensive information about post school destinations has been collected and published anywhere in Australia. The On Track project also includes a 4 year Longitudinal Survey which will follow specific groups of the 2003 Year 12 completers to develop of more detailed picture of their transitions over the 4 years after they leave school. On Track adds to the information previously available to parents and the Victorian public, by highlighting the diversity of pathways young people pursue after leaving secondary school.

The CRLLEN organises individual meetings with all schools in the Region to discuss the growing evidence base that will allow better focussed and informed planning across the district.

On Track has finished contacting students who left school in 2003

Information for the Central Ranges LLEN can be found by following the links below:

On Track destination data for students enrolled in year 12 in 2003, complements information on student performances in VCE. This is the second time such comprehensive information about post school destinations has been collected and published anywhere in Australia. Before On Track data was available, there was strong focus on an ENTER score as the only measure of the success of our school education system. On Track adds to the information previously available to parents and the Victorian public, by highlighting the diversity of pathways young people pursue after leaving secondary school.

On Track surveying of school leavers has indicated the proportion of young people pursuing vocational pathways across Victoria, including TAFE or other Vocational Education and Training (VET), apprenticeships or traineeships, in addition to the more familiar destinations of university, deferring or youth employment.

Longitudinal tracking by On Track of the 2004 cohort over the next four years will build up a picture of the longer term destinations of post school students, including deferees.
