SEYMOUR PUCKAPUNYAL YOUTH PARTNERSHIP

The SPYP connects students from local schools and GOTAFE with job opportunities at Ventia, the second-largest employer in the region. Established in 2016, the Partnership aims to equip young people with valuable work experience and skills for their future careers.

WHO IS INVOLVED?

The Partnership is a collaboration between Central Ranges LLEN, Ventia, GOTAFE, Seymour College, St. Mary’s College, and Seymour Flexible Learning Centre. All parties work together to create meaningful opportunities for student success.

OUTCOMES & TRACK RECORD

The Partnership has been in operation for over 5 years, making a significant impact in the lives of young people. For example, Ethan Mccullough started with a work experience placement and later secured a full-time job at Ventia. Another student from St. Mary’s was awarded a scholarship for advanced studies.

PROGRAMS & OPPORTUNITIES

The Partnership offers:

  • Training Interviews: Practice job interviews to prepare students for real-world scenarios.

  • Industry Visits: Tours of various worksites at the Puckapunyal Army Base

  • Work Placements: Short-term job experiences to help students learn on the job.

  • Apprenticeships and Jobs: Guidance and support in securing longer-term employment opportunities.
